Commenting on Jian, part 2

See also: Commenting on Jian.

The reaction to the Jian Ghomeshi story is why I hate the Internet. Something happens. Details are murky. People rush to judgment. Then more information comes out. People regret their original stance, they delete their comments. And then, rather then concluding: "Gee, perhaps I should refrain from commenting in the public arena," these people rush out to do it again.

For example, check out these 8 people who commented on Jian's first post with frothing-at-the-mouth support. Then read what they wrote on the second post after they deleted their original comment. It's typically much shorter.

Related: this is why I really, really hate Twitter. It can magnify this sort of problem 100x due to its terse nature and immediacy.

What!?!?!?!?!? You'll rise up Jian, I know you will. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned but, this will only make you stronger, I am sure. You have a rare gift and talent for interviewing. You ask fantastic questions and pick up on subtle cues. I'm sorry the powers that be have no courage and loyalty to have your back. Your personal life is no ones business, IMO. ... Onward!!! (0 likes) I'm thinking its a good thing this all came out now before some woman's life is actually ended by your hands. (23 likes)
Add my name to the list that supports you and un-likes the CBC for this cowardly action on their part. Luckily, this will not end your very bright career or silence your valued views. (2 likes) I think the believability train has left the station. (15 likes)
It's clear you're immense talents were wasted with a company that has come to care more about it's bottom-line than about sharing free information and the Canadian identity with the world.

Whatever one thinks about the lifestyle you choose to lead, it's neither illegal, nor non-consenting for the partners in which you engage it with. It should have no bearing on your job with a program which prides itself on a diversity of ideas, personalities and issues, being expressed and debated.

You were one of a kind; a true treasure in the field of on-air personalities and interviewers. You treated all those who entered your forum with a level of respect and reverence, and engaged counter-points logistically. There was an equal warmth and directness to your interview style that always appealed to me. And you heralded a cultural touchstone in modern radio.

Not to mention the great kinship that came through our shared love of New Wave music. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors and hope your natural talents will be shared with the world once again. (1 like)
I hope you find peace and healing - but I can not in good conscious support you until the allegations are proven false in a court of law, and these woman's stories refuted based on evidence. Until then I don't wish you ill and pray for all in involved, but can not and will not support you. (6 likes)
You have my full support, I will miss hearing your voice, Q is... Er was a huge part of my day. I wish you all success in the future and hope to find your voice on the radio again soon. (1 like) Hmmm. Your PR firm dropped you, your agency dropped you, you were fired and you lost the respect of any ex fan with a brain. I gotta say, I admire commitment, even on your way down. You deserve everything that comes your way. (13 likes)
Dear Jian, firstly, thank you for telling us your side of the story so openly and frankly. It is very hard for anyone to speak publicly about such a private matter that does not concern others. This shows your integrity, honesty and respect for people you talked to everyday via your shows. Secondly, as you said, your private life as long as you are not involved in any criminal act, is your business and as you can read the comments of your listeners, no one cares and even interested to know. Thirdly, this woman who caused you all these torments, will not receive any sympathy from decent people. How can she claims that she was in an abusive relationship with you for 2 years. How is she going to justify it? I am sure that there was a reason to why you did not continue your friendship with her, and now everyone else knows it too. I am greatly disappointed on CBC for the way they handled this matter. Instead of backing you up and stand strongly behind you to stop these kind of threats against their employees, they showed weakness and that how much the employees can trust their judgment, if it ever comes to needing their support. I don't know when I can tune in CBC again, without thinking of you and how they treated you. It is absurd. (0 likes) I hope this case goes to court and then we have a solid case to discuss. So far it is all gossip. (2 likes)
It's very unfortunate that even in these turbulent times where more relevant issues should take precedence, rumour and innuendo should be considered enough to let go of someone for fear of repercussions that may or may not affect the reputation of a Corporation at large. Shame on you CBC, shame on those vent on vengeance, and shame to us all, what we do in private should remain just that, private. We love the show, and your candid and intelligent approach, and we will support you thru this ordeal (3 likes) We are all innocent till proven otherwise. I will withhold my comments until all this, if ever it does, gets sorted out. None the less, you are human and as such not perfect. Maybe now it's a good time to reflect on your journey and use this events as a platform for improvement. (3 likes)
And my heart goes out to you regarding the loss of your father...I imagine him to have been an amazing man as I listen or have read anything you have shared about him. (0 likes) I can no longer support you Jian Ghomeshi...when the story of victimization repeats itself through your victims, I am inclined to believe them and not you. It does not sound like you are a victim in this. It seems there is a real pattern in the allegations against you. I hope that you get some help and take responsibility for your actions. (19 likes)
Professionally, Can't wait to hear/see/read what you get into next. This won't matter in 5 years and your successes are in front of you. I cannot even speculate why cbc has taken such a harsh stand. I'm sure it will ensue. Blessing, healing & and know there are many who see you as a Canadian icon! (2 likes) "Unlike" enuf said (5 likes)
