Jennifer's Run

Fiverr is called Fiverr because everything on it costs $5 or a multiple of $5.

Why not "Fiver," you ask? The extra r is for the quality you can expect. It's like visiting the sketchier all-cash markets in major cities with their plethora of "authentic" Lewis Vuitton bags, Prado wallets and Okeley sunglasses.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. Jenn turned 30 recently. To mark the occasion, I thought I'd have a little fun and get some slight tweaks made to a certain coming-of-age movie's promotional poster.

The original:

I reached out to 6 sellers on Fiverr who advertised that they could Photoshop anything with this design brief:

I'm looking to get an edited version of the Logan's Run movie poster as a birthday gift for a friend.
You can see the poster at: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBYTOnsOdEZ0SrFkHmsEpIvVPi-j6zRAH27tlbTKhLY7syQznQir4qquKvWke3Bg3MPyM5vVomVFsAAkj2hnfdWY4SrEI5n8lQV7ILhw2xZumPDEOD7vbrVkNXdukox4N2TTwad_hsez8/s1600/23p110715030.jpg

The alterations would be:
- change every instance of Logan to Jennifer (including the graphic title logo)
- change "his" to "her" where it says "This is his story"
- delete the 3 lines that start "To bring it to life..."
It is important to keep the same font style and color every where that text is replaced.
Does that seem like something you'd be interested in and able to do? What would you charge and what would the turnaround time be?
1 said he was too busy.
2 said it was beyond their skills, i.e. they couldn't actually Photoshop anything.
1 said she'd love to do it for $5, but her computer wasn't working.
1 said he'd do it for $30 in 1 day
1 said he'd do it for $5 in 1 day

Both of the willing sellers were from Sri Lanka, a relatively poor South Asian country. I figured $30 goes a long way there, and got the $30 guy to start on it.

A day later, he produced:

Not quite right. I responded:

Hi,
This is not quite done yet.
You changed the font for the graphic logo that says "Jennifer's Run". I was expecting the same font. I could have done this change myself if I didn't care about the font :)
Can you please do a revision that maintains the original look and feel?

A day later, he produced:

I responded:

I think we're not on the same page here.
You have slightly improved the font, but it is still not the same look and feel as the original.
The issues as I see them:
- you are still using an off the shelf font (which I could do myself) vs hand-drawing it.
- the colors aren't right (should be blue and pale green)
- the ratio of black background to text is way too high
I'm not sure how to proceed here. I don't think you understand what I am looking for, and a fast turnaround time is important to me. Should we cancel this gig?

He insisted on giving it another try. At this point I also engaged the $5 guy and advertised the job on reddit's /r/forhire group.

The next day:

I cancelled the gig.

Meanwhile, /r/forhire produced several people who wanted the gig. 1 guy offered to do a 1-day turnaround for $100, another offered 3-day turnaround for $50. I went with the first:

My takeaway: Fiverr's great if you have time to wait and time to waste, or if you're doing a very simple task where you're very flexible with the creative result (e.g. "a voiceover in a British accent" vs "a voiceover in a shifty Cockney accent" or "a horrible MSPaint rendering of a poster" vs "what any sane person would expect")

PS You may be wondering what happened with the $5 Fiverr guy? After 2 days, I asked him for a status update.
i can make all text on it but not possibele to make same logo in diferent name, its get more time, can i use similar like this?
We cancelled the gig.

PPS The $30 guy had 5,258 reviews, averaging 5/5 stars.

PPPS You can't review a cancelled gig.

PPPPS The only Carousel Jenn experienced on her 30th was at the Winterloo ice sculpture display:
